I Understand

I understand what you're saying

I get where you're coming from

I get what you mean

Stop lying

Because the untruth comes when our sympathy mixes in with our compassion

You wear it like the latest fashion

And though you may not do it on purpose

You're still lying just the same

I know what I want to say

In my head, the words sound very diplomatic, so magic, even tragic

But when I'm ready to voice my opinion, it sounds so poetically pathetic

And I'm back at base one

What I'm saying is right, so right and true

But how do I explain this feeling to you

How do I answer your evergoing question when that very thing has a preception of it's own

And no one has ever fully understood

So in the end did my witnessing do any good

You don't know where I'm coming from

I feel as if you're refusing to comprehend my reason

And my answer to your question still leaves you saying "but still"

So all I have to say is

I understand what you're saying

I get where you're coming from

I know what you mean

But I'm lying
