I Spend My Nights Driving

Location

I spend my nights driving

And I don’t have my license

Not even my permit

But I spend my nights driving

My soul rises out of its apparatus

And it drives all night

And into the morning

And suddenly it’s 5:30AM again

And I’ve got 4 texts and 8 missed calls from

Mom

“Where are you?’

“Come home.”

“It’s getting late.”

“I swear, young lady. When you get back you’ll be grounded.”

She’s not wrong.

I get back,

Go through the day

Totally, entirely, realistically

Unfortunately grounded

Running out of gas

I used it all last night

I spend my nights dreaming

Err---umm..driving.

I spend my nights driving.
