“I should be writing”

 

I tell myself

With an empty mind…

 

 

I should be writing,

but I’ve gathered

all my words together

and patted them down

like pine needles just

above my eyes

and curled up in

the new nest…

 

Just lying there

Still lying to myself but

Unsure of what the lie is…

 

I tell myself

I can’t write

Because of this lie

 

But we all know

that’s bullshit

 

I should be writing

about the lie,

to the lie,

from the lie;

I am the lie.

 

I never wanted to take this break, I tell myself;

I should be writing...
