I SEE LIBERIA

Location

Liberia

I see Liberia!
A land where the seashores of the Atlantic
Embraced and welcomed the Mayflower,
The great voyage of a rising sun,
Imprinting the omen of a new dawn.

A promised land of the modern era
As negroes journeyed through the Red Sea of the Mediterranean,
Out of the hideous bondage of imperial Americo-europeans,
Questing for the milk and honey of liberty!

I see Liberia!
Africa’s pride and beacon of hope
As she raises the first flag of independence,
Proclaiming herself as the Lux in Tenebris
While the Lonestar glows amidst the dark continental field.

The purity in her white scribe is evident
As she has neither been corrupted
By earthquakes, tsunamis or tornadoes
Nor has she seen hurricanes or volcanoes.

I see Liberia!
A paradise in nature
Where wild life boasts of fertile grasslands,
And tropical forests flourish throughout its fruitful soil,
Manifesting the art of ardent coloration.

A sanctuary dipped in culture
Where mortars and pestles harmonize
The melodious chorus of ethnical traditions
While fifteen political subdivisions are cloaked
In unity by the red, white and blue;
And engulfed by the love of liberty that brought them here.

I see Liberia!
A wonder to behold
Where black is amazingly beautiful
When the sons and daughters of a long, lost heritage
Travel back in time to their roots
In discovery, of the true definition of African beauty.

Oh mama Liberia, I do see you!
A land which has been in the fearsome dungeon of slavery,
Through the frightening pangs of civil crisis,
Down the alarming valley of great depression,
Back up and gliding majestically through the skies!
An indomitable force to be reckoned with!
A land where dreams can still become realities!
