I Heard Her

She was always standing there
As my roommate, my soul-mate
My best friend, and my daughter.

She stood tall with love
With chocolaty smile
And with soft-beaming light.

And just like that she stood
Quietly in a corner
As me and mom planned to send her away.

We had no food, had no money.
She'd be well taken care of
Till we get her back.

I cried, but not.
Mom cried for me, but not.
It was to be done.

And her, her beautiful brunette clipped by fake gold
Hung loose at her feet but she seemed not to care.
She just stood there with half a smile.

She didn't say a word.
Dry cheek had no tear.
But she kept standing there, staring at us.

Numbers were dialed and answered.
Me and mom sat down with burdened hearts
Listening to an apathetic monotone.

Then, I heard her – a note, a moan, a scream.
Her broken string echoed silently in where I don't know.
I love you, she said, I'll miss you.
