I Have No Curtain

Location

I have no curtain.

I don't need one.

I am never SHY

never SELF-CONCIOUS

never STRESSED

never ANGRY

never SAD

never really AFRAID.

I have no curtain

because I have nothing to hide.

I am never SHY:

the pit in my stomach does not exist

when I introduce myself to a stranger.

My smile is

unfailing.

I put them at ease.

I don't worry about

bad first impressions.

I am never SELF-CONCIOUS:

I don't second-guess

everything

I say

and do

and wear.

My awkwardness does not

hold me back.

I am never STRESSED:

everything is

easy

and takes

no time

and people are

kind

and decisions are

simple.

I am never ANGRY:

my favorite words are

"You're totally fine."

The last thing

I want

is to make someone else

feel guilty.

Therefore,

it is impossible

to do wrong

by me.

I am never SAD:

I am too busy

telling others not to be.

I have too many people

to see

smile.

I am never really AFRAID:

because everything

always

turns out

ok.

Right?

I am never any of these.

But I stand here in the spotlight

with all my “nevers”

overflowing in my arms

and

I realize:

I am a very talented

actor

on a stage

set for a grand production

with an audience

expecting a five-star show

and

DENIAL

is

my

curtain.
