I Grew Out of Being a Child

It wasn't a sudden realization,

but suddenly,

I didn't fit my tutus or ballet shoes,

I stopped sleeping with plushies piled on my covers,

I quit counting my steps as I walked.

Maybe I grew up when people started saying,

"You're an adult now."

"Stop being childish."

I don't think I ever stopped being a kid at heart,

But I grew out of being a child when everyone stopped calling me one.
