I Don't Have to Rhyme

"Life is like a box of chocolates

"You never know what you're gonna get"

Life isn't simple.

It isn't just living day-to-day.

It takes planning, pursuits, failures, and woes.

Still, you don't always get what you expect.

Sometimes things go wrong.

Life is like poetry.

Sometimes it flows.

Its rhymes seem so perfect.

But sometimes it's just words on a page

T

    U

         M

               B

                     L

                             I

                                   N

                                          G

                                                 down.

Sometimes it doesn't make sense.

You can't decipher one meaning from another.

Sometimes you have to turn the book

Just to read what's written.

Sometimes poems have

Strict syllabic structure and

You can't break the rules.

Five syllables here

Next Line Seven Syllables

Five again: Haiku

Letters sometimes have meaning

Every letter comes another word

To bring about feelings of importance

To show someone that it matters

Every letter has a purpose

Rather it be name or spoken word

Sometimes, though, it's difficult to write

Which is why life is like poetry

It bends, it twists, it turns

It hardly ever has structure.

Sometimes it doesn't even have a point.

It doesn't have to be perfect.

Life is like poetry, it doesn't always flow in time.

And just like poetry, I don't always have to rhyme.
