I Am a Poet

I am a poet.

My pen is my sword

The ancestors and God fuel my every word

Flowing out of this trident is ink from the depths of the ocean

Salt water tears shed on Sunday mornings

Psalms murmured through my lips

Hymns moving my hips

Poetry is my Rhythm & Blues

My salvation and prayer

To be handled with the utmost care,

I’d rather die and be born again

Than to live an eternity of sin

So it is with this poem I breathe

And with new life I see

The glory that is God

And how She lives in me.
