I Am My Mother's Son

I am my mother's son

Someone who won't compare to none

A unique creation made by God, my savior

But since the age of six I've had cold behavior

Although that never stopped me from dreamin

Comin' up with ideas when no one was believin'

I used to let stereotyping get to me

But mama always said, "Be the best you can be"

I made it this far but not without the woman who brought me into this world

I am my mother's son

The teenager who went through obstacles to get me where I am today

Believin' in my mother's words knowin' I'll get to where I want someday

She's my queen the only one who gave me spirit of mind

Independent, single, young, black woman who always stays on her grind

Never gave up hope and always havin' faith in her children

Knowin' we'll be big and happily livin'

Like I said from the beginning

I Am My Mother's Son
