I Am ME and You are YOU and He is HE and She is SHE Too!

As a child, the questions seemed much simpler:

I am Corina…

I am a girl who reads books, who hates crooks,

who loves to dress up, play with my pups,

a girl who can sing and dance, and dreams of romance.

This is me, I am all these things.

I am little and blonde and full of fun.

I am Latin and freckled with two eyes and two left feet.

I am just a girl with a personality.

But as you grow older,

the questions become more complicated:

I am different… they want me to be different

and to fit in all the same.

So is it not enough to say I like to read and dance

and play with puppies?

Is it too little to say I am blonde and freckled?

Does my ethnicity not cut it

because it makes me like others?

Who am I?

I know I am different from the rest,

But my interests are common and known.

Does that make me unknown?

Don’t I stand out?

So, people think these same thoughts,

and they start to change who they are

because they want to be noticed.

And, they craft themselves and where a disguise…

Who are they?

Don’t they know that, no matter what,

YOU ARE YOU.

And no one can take that away.

So I am ME.

No matter how many fish in the sea,

I am different and

I am ME.
