I Am Forgiving

I am forgiving

that's what I'd like to believe

no matter how many wrongs you have,

of them, I won't conceive

It is not that I am kind

or loving or sweet

the truth is I forgive others

because I don't forgive me.

I don't forgive myself

for my anger or impatience.

I don't forgive myself

for my ignorance and hatred.

I could not forgive myself

for being blind to violence

or for thinking against issues

but always staying silent.

How could I forgive myself,

for being so selfish and needy?

For being gluttonous and sensitive,

demanding and greedy.

Because I do not forgive,

myself of all people,

I forgive others,

even those that I don't need to.

I forgave his hand, which hurt against my own.

I forgave her trend, of sending money away from home.

I forgave his folly, his naivety, his youth.

I forgave their faults, their lips which are loose.

For my family and my friends,

and everyone else in the world,

for my enemies and my peers,

for the leaders are unfurled.

I am forgiving to them,

only to them, you see.

I am forgiving to all,

all except me.
