I Am Beautiful Me

A poke of my finger.

A drop of my blood.

A tiny blue strip in a machine.

That keeps me alive.

People know me by my disease.

I am a Type 1 Diabetic.

I wear a medical ID bracelet.

My body is attached to a pump.

When I see myself, I am much more than this!

I am a scholar and an athlete.

A sister and daughter.

I am a mentor and friend.

I will not let this disease define me.

Yes, I have diabetes, but it does not have me.

It will not let it rob me of my future.

I will work harder because of it.

I am not a statistic.

I am positive and smart.

My name is not Type 1.

I am beautiful me.
