I am an African American
Take away African and I'm American like you
Do I not have a head full of hopes, aspirations, and dreams
Do I not have emotions?
Do you not think that your unexplained hate causes me pain, and sorrow
But you know what?
I continue to hide it
I hold my head up high, put a smile on my face
And show that I am stronger than you think I am
I'll take your harsh words, your hateful glares
I'll tolerate it all because I won't stoop down to your level
Why hate me?
Take away everyone's skin tones and eye colors and how am I different from you?
Should I hate you because you aren't black?
Should I hate you because you aren't like me?
Didn't think so
