I Am...

I Am….

I Am

A brown-skinned girl

Living in a land that my ancestors

Nurtured with their bare hands

I Am

More than a teen pregnancy statistic

Or a victim of the prostitution

That I am force fed every day in the media

I Am

Generations of hard work

And resilience

That spills out of me constantly

I Am

True to myself

True to those inner thoughts

True to my heart

I Am

Beautiful and gregarious

Eloquent and Intelligent

Motivated by my ambitiousness

I Am

Confident that

Even in a world where

Our souls are lost

To iphones and androids

I can stay in touch

With my inner essence

I Am

Proud to say that I

Speak my mind

Even when you don’t

Want to hear it

I Am

Not bothered by

Those that seek to

Watch me fail

Then try and pick me up

I Am

Undisturbed by

Mountains and giants

That try to stand in my way

I Am

Simply

Me.
