the hurt hidden in the word "heartbreak"

He loved me.

Really, he did.

I think.

But things change

And People change

And you wonder if you ever really belonged with them.

We held the world in our hands.

The time was in our control.

He held the hammer

And I held the nails,

And we worked together

To build our world.

As the years passed

He began to strike harder

Too hard

And instead of counting the days

I was counting the times he apologized for the purple and blue marks on my skin.

It came.

He struck the nail

Too hard.

He broke it

And everything we had

Was destroyed.

Everything we had

Everything I loved.

Time passed.

They told me I would heal.

They told me time was the tape

To heal my broken wounds

They lied.,

Time was the wood the hammer and nails used

To cover up the pain

To cover the destruction he caused in my heart

I was broken

Oh, right.

I still am.
