Human

Terrorist, N*****,Brown, Dirty

Do I prove my humanity?

Or attempt to hide my truth

But...

The day I wake and paint my face white is when my facade will prove my inhumanity

For I have lost it when I can only find peace if I abandon my heritage

When I gently set down a bindi, a burqa and will my mind to become indistinguishable

Lose my humanity to hide my truth to prove my humanity

Lose my humanity in the eyes of ignorant humans to reveal my truth

Maybe I must rely on myself to understand and accept the depths of my humanity

Acknowledge the basic nature of humanness is less topical than skin color

Find that piece of my mind

To find peace within my mind

Lead myself to the realization

I am human

An immigrant but not an alien
