Huevos Rancheros

That Sun day

You crack the egg onto the frying pan

You watch it bubble and sizzle

You grab the fried tortilla and slides the egg on top

You begin to yell back and forth

You can’t see that your children are on the couch looking

At him getting more aggressive

You grab the chile out from the fridge

Slathering it onto the egg and tortilla

You make more tortillas

You scream “Quitate de mi casa”

And you can’t remember anything after that

All you heard was the cracking of an egg

Your jaw unhinges

You watch your daughters and son cry around you

You see him walking out of the small apartment building

Massaging his knuckle
