How We Learn

We learn young
That little ladies
Are to cross their legs
And bite their tongue

We next are given the lesson
Of boys
Of heartbreaks
And pain to lessen

Then we are told of
The birds and the bees
Of our bodies
And of Love.

Next comes sin
About the difference between
Giving consent
And giving in

Told sex will ruin your life
And make you pregnant
A whore
Then you'll never be a wife

But how do we learn
What to do when no doesn't cut it?
What do we do when a guy tells us
We are a prize to earn?

How do we learn
How to let go of our tongue
When what he wants
Is something for which we don't yearn

How do we know
How to get him to stop
When he says he is trying to please you
But you just want him to go

How we learn is be losing
By trying to scream
But still staying silent
By trying to fight but left with bruising

We learn to be a lady
When we are young
But as we grow older we learn
That theirs more to life than being a lady.
