That Horrible Question

'What do you want to do with your life?'
The age old question.
From practically the moment we begin talking,
Everyone asks us what we want to do.

As we grow older
This question begins to haunt us
'What do I want to do for the rest of my life?'

It took me awhile to put an answer to that question
I want to be an author.

Well, now I've answered it, but how do I achieve that dream job?

As with most careers, you educate yourself for the job
You make sure you've mastered the art.

Then what?
I'll just wander around with the slight hope
That I'll actually succeed?

Yet I can't give up, because I know I want to be an author
If I had to do nothing but write, every day, for the rest of my life
I'd be happy.
Because writing is what I want to do with my life.
