Hoping

We could be a synergistic colony of bees
If we'd only stop stinging
We could build a city of gold
But we're too busy stealing
We could conduct a grand symphony
If the music would quiet our shouting
We could build great machines
If only we put an end to the killing
We could see ourselves as we are
If our eyes weren't pretending
We could live in a happier Earth
If our game wasn't manipulating
I could shake your hand
If that blade you'd stop wielding
I could be my own best friend
If I knew how to stop judging
I could simply end this poem
If I were still a sapling
They tell me "Be happy."
But the ocular rivers keep flowing
And my mind is reeling
Pondering
Questioning
The lines are blank and the world is still spinning
So in my wonder I'll keep writing
Wishing
Hoping
