Hope for the Helpless

Location

Pounds are for forgotten animals, whose lives have now gone from bright to gray

Or for pets that have lost their way,

Until someone comes along and takes them home, it's there that they will stay.

Nothing could be more rewarding, than adopting a pet today.

Dejected pets hope for a real home, longing for more than just a temporary stay

Pets, abandoned, are dying by the hour

Each one wishing to have a home, take walks, and sniff just one blooming flower

Taking-in each booming sound in the pound with a whimper and a cower

Someday, maybe, adopters will come along to make life less sour

Never can one forget seeing those miserable, petrified eyes

Eyes full of fear, maybe a tear, since animals, too, can cry

Even that desolate dog, facing the corner, once slept happily in a home 'til that unexpected surprise

Dazed and ashamed, she wonders what she did to deserve such a careless goodbye

You are the one who can undo the mistakes of others

Open your heart to these pets, so that their lost hope they may rediscover

Understand that doing right is your duty and mine; we shall not leave it for another
