Hope flies high above, unshackled and free

As any bird could ever dream. Shadows

Dare not touch it and fear, ugly beast, cows

Before its light. Watch, at dawn you will see.

That little light holds a most wondrous key

That unlocks any garden and hallows

Any earth, allows passage thru shallows

And into the depths of who we can be.

And yet you wield it like a sharpened blade

Aimed at my heart, my soul, my very life.

You are Brutus, come here to end it all.

I wonder if as I falter and fade,

My feeble struggles will bring you any strife

And my soul’s cry “Et tu Brute!” as I fall.
