Up on a hill

I live in a castle upon a hill.

Well, at least that’s what I thought.

I actually live in a beat up hut upon a hill.

Everyone constantly looking up at me,

And not in a good way.

Instead of being on the top floor of a skyscraper,

I’m hanging off of it.

I love having people looking up at me!
I just wish it was for a good reason.

Where did I go wrong?

When did my castle shrink?

When did the stone turn to wood,

And the vines turn to mold,

And the air vents turn into rat holes?

When did it get destroyed?

I’m always there for you to judge.

I am on the billboards you drive by on a road trip,

You only enjoy looking at me when you have nothing better to do.

I am the last choice.

I am on the tv you watch.

I am on the comedy shows as the funny best friend with no personality.

I am in horror movies as the first victim to die to a masked murderer.

I am in the 15 second commercials you are desperate to skip as the “before” for someone on sertraline.

I am on the posters in the doctor's office as the “before” for plastic surgery.

I am the bodies in Rainbow Valley, Everest.

I am everywhere and everyone wishes I wasn’t.

Sometimes I wish I wasn’t.
