Hide and Seek

Sometimes I wonder

All those times I played hide and seek when I was younger

Snuggled under covers, protected from thunder

Trying to find the hiders, to satisfy my competitive hunger

And forcing myself into small spaces

Closing my eyes in the dark

And thinking of familiar places

Was that just practice for the hiding I am doing now?
