Hidden in the Miniskirt

She kept her words to herself

Because she knew their power,

She knew what they were capable of;

What they could do to others.

She kept her feelings to herself

Because she knew they made her look vulnerable

She knew they would laugh at her

For being human.

She kept her love to herself

Because she knew it would turn right around

She knew it wouldn’t return

No one had loved her.

She kept her music to herself

Because she knew they would judge her.

She knew they would make fun of her

Again.

She kept her personality to herself

Because she knew they wouldn’t like it.

She knew she couldn’t wear black jeans

So she put on a miniskirt.

She kept her habits to herself

Because she knew they wouldn’t approve

She knew they didn’t bite their nails when nervous

And god forbid she was different.
