what if i had not compiled all my

courage to tell you “hello?”

and what if you had replied with a

scowl instead of a smile?

i sometimes wonder, late at night,

how we two came to be.

how instead of crossing paths,

we collided with full force

into each other’s lives.

i smile to myself knowing that you will

be here whenever, and i hope you

realize that this is a quid pro quo.

whether its stargazing at midnight

and watching the sunrise, or

drowning ourselves in alcohol to

forget about our mistakes.

if I say “I love you,”

i hope you don’t mistake this

love for familial or romantic.

no, this is different, and better.

this love is innocent and pure,

with complete honesty,

a promise that we have each other’s

backs till the end.

it holds memories of a decade,

and decades to come.

do you know the difference between

us and the stars?

stars burn bright, and

when they fall they are beautiful.

but once they do,

they are forgotten by all.

when we fall, we fall holding hands,

forever with each other,

never alone. that way,

we will always be remembered.
