"Here"

Here I am, the daughter of two Mexican immigrants,

Scared for what might happen,

Scared of what could happen.

Here I am, Appreciative of my culture and where I’m from,

thankful for the risks that were taken,

Giving it my all to let them know it was worth it.

Here we are, together.

Yet there they are, torn

Away from each other.

Locked away like animals,

Being put down,

Nobody cares.

Yet here they are,

Hated for where they come

From, and treated like shit

Because of their status,

Being accused

Of things that aren’t true

People making assumptions,

Nobody cares.
