Hello, younger Me

Hello, younger me.

You're confused,

That much I know.

You're not sure what you like

Or exactly where to go.

I wish that I could promise

"You'll know by thirty-three."

But that's a baseless, flat-out lie

Though I wish it were easy.

I wish goals had a start date

(I wish I'd have at least one too)

I wish I could give you solid truth

And tell you what to do.

But our dilemma here,

As odd though it may be

I'm glad you don't know the future

I'm glad you don't know me.

I know you're getting angry.

I know, I was you too.

I know you're all upset now

Since this is all I say to you,

You might think that it's bleak

And though it may seem mean,

I know you're in a tizzy

Since your future won't come clean.

But that's the one thing that I think

You really need to know

Just keep doing what you're doing,

And your future, too, will grow.

Just work on getting better

But don't fret on mistakes.

Take advice from those around you,

But don't take it from the flakes.

And though you may be stressing,

My main point is to don't!

You just keep right on living,

And we'll both see where it goes.

And when that bright day comes,

When you've caught right up to me,

I know we'll both be happy

When we look back and we see,

Despite the troubling times,

And the glaringly sad heartaches,

We are who we are

By daily choices we did make.

So good luck on your journey,

Shoot for stars and for the moon

One step, then another,

And I know I'll see you soon.
