Heart vs Head

When we make decisions we lead with logic or emotion

So the final outcome won’t make us feel like we’re drowning in the ocean

The head makes sense and thinks of the long run

What can I do to achieve my goals

To fill up the holes

That I’ve dug in the past

The head makes decisions that will last

That won’t leave you stranded in the future

Even if it means a sacrifice now

It represents all the right answers on the test

But what if none of them are the best

What if you need to sit back and reflect

On all the choices that you chose to reject

All the ones that made you upset

And gave you anguish that would not relent

Over and over your heart said yes

But your head said no

It made you dig down further than you would have thought

And cast them into the holes

Never to be seen again

But they were

You didn’t bury them did you

You let them live

Let them breathe

Let them influence you...didn’t you

No matter how much the payoff would be in the end

You always ask yourself “what if I just pressed send?”

We can’t go on

We can’t pretend

The amount of time that we spend

Going around in circles over and over again

My head says no...but my heart says yes

Without our hearts then how would we feel

There would be no passion

Everything would move so fast as if the director just yelled action

And without the head we’d have nothing to strive for

Our heart would be our core

And we’d wind up dead

Just because someone decided for us

And we did what they said
