He told me he loved me

He told me he loved me last night

And for the first time

I didn’t question

if I should say it back or not.

It doesn’t scare me to say those words

But it scares me to feel them

Because they can so easily

Not be true.

But this time was different.

He told me he loved me

And instead of my heart pounding from nerves

My heart

beat

With a purpose.

And that purpose is to love him,

Too.

And to be someone worth loving.

And I will try to be worth it every day.

Because when he told me he loved me last night

The only thing I wanted

Was to tell him how much I love him,

Too.
