Have a Heart

Location

Excel, Alabama
United States

A wise man once told me to follow my heart,

and to do what makes me happy until what binds me comes apart.

My beating heart once told me that my exit was a fall,

so I leaped without looking because I would try any way at all.

I will not be Swallowed by the trials of yesterday,

and I will not be emptied by the tolls I will have to pay.

I was never fooled by fairy tales of safe and sound,

and I will build my wings before I ever reach the ground.

A lighthouse once showed me the way that I should go,

but soon the light will disappear and darkness I will know.

I can tell my veins are not hollow and I know I will make it through,

but maybe the journey is not about me maybe I am guiding you.

I will make a straying path from trials of yesterday,

and I will break the toll bridge so the tolls you will not pay.

I will never tell you fairy tales of safe and sound,

and I will throw you my wings so you will go opposite of down.
