Hanging On

So you have fallen
You stood here at this pit, looking down it as I have
Standing with your toes over the edge as I have
Just hoping not to fall in
But the ground is not always stable
Any foundation can crumble with enough pressure
And lack of support

In one's time of despair it is easy to reach out to the sky
Hoping any hand will snatch yours and be strong enough to hold you up from the pit
But no one person on their own has the willpower nor the muscle
To hold you over the pit forever
This is not a way of living
Everyone must let go eventually

The first hand you see may not always have the strongest hold
In the end it is only but a temporary fix
For no matter how much will somebody has to hold you up there is not that much strength
It simply is not human nature
You still must desire to place your feet back onto stable ground
Desire to find a way to climb out

Again no single hand can hold you so high
Accept all that reach out
Because an outreached hand is one that cares
A symbol of love and a promise of support
But you must truly have the urgency to stand and not fall
Because allowing yourself to fall instead of taking that hand is giving up, giving in

As difficult as it is to hold on there is another person on the other side struggling
The more you allow others to hold you, be your support,
The easier it becomes for the ones who do
So of this I ask but one thing of you:
It is as much a leap of faith for you to remain strong as it is for the ones who love and care for you
Do not let your grip slip any easier than they would theirs

Just hang on for us all.
