The Hallway was Silent

The hallway was silent.
As I walked through the darkness,
pictures watching with vacant eyes.

The hallway was silent.
As I turned the stiff handle,
cold seeping through cracks in the wall.

The hallway was silent.
As the earth seemed to slow,
black night bleeding into the dusk.

The hallway was silent.
As the fire stopped burning,
white hot embers no longer aflame.

The hallway was silent.
As the whole world was ending,
drowned in the deepest of regrets.

The hallway stays silent evermore.
