Growing Pains

When young I thought of life as sweet and kind,
But since then I've been faced with growing pains.
A life of innocence, I've left behind
Exchanged for all that growing up contains.

But what has led me to this steep-edged hole
Into which my feet slip as I do flee?
And what, if not escape, shall be my goal
As endless adulthood takes over me?

I left my friends to make the life I chose
And soon depression took me in its grip,
But though life strikes with ever-daunting blows,
I'll keep on fighting, even when I slip.

The pains of growing grow as life goes on
As ever onwards I am briskly drawn.
