Don’t be affected, stuck-up, mean,

And make it a person, place or thing!

Don’t psychoanalyze-we’re not disturbed,

But use affect just as a verb!

The effect that the affect makes

Is very easy to mistake.

Affect means to touch or change,

The effect may be rather strange.

So please, oh please, I beg and pray,

Use affect as a verb today!

I wrote this poem because it bugs me so much when people use words incorrectly. This is one that is often used incorrectly. Since I really shouldn't blow up in people's faces and yell at them the definition of the word "affect," I wrote this poem for all the Grammar Nazis out there who are writhing inside. And if anyone else reads it...please use "affect" correctly!
