A Good Friend...

Fri, 09/08/2017 - 13:10 -- Srsmith

My mom told me

That I should always be a friend

Little did I know

What place that would end

You called me your friend

And I called you mine

Our friendship however

Doesn’t stand the length of time

A good friend doesn’t

Do the things you do

A good friend doesn’t

Treat me like you do

A good friend cares

A good friend supports

A good friend doesn’t

Build walls and tall forts

You locked me out

Threw away the key

Did you even know what you meant to me?

Oh you didn’t

Guess that’s cool?

Why do I always have to be the fool?

I’ll move on

I know I can

I’ll grow up and be a man

I’ll find a new friend

Someone not “You”

Someday I’ll hear you name

And ask “Who?”

My kindness got me nothing

Except the sting left by you

One day I hope you grow up to be true
