Golden Girl

Love is

The purer thing turned black and twisted

Snapping her heart in two.

Her face is masked by deceit and self-consciousness

But she only wants to come through.

Their jeers and their laughter,

They hammer her chest

As she kneels by her bed at night.

And her long-waiting fears, they jump to the front

As she fights to be whole in their sight.

She doesn’t know now

But her heart is more precious

Than any of the world will let on.

And her eyes, they are lovely

And full of the life that assures her she’s not just their pawn.

But no one will inform her, she won’t say it herself

I’m lovely, and special; Unique

But what if she was told

And all these things changed

And she knew she was worth more than gold?
