Going Awry

Location

Things go awry when people forget where they came from.
When one sees a passing stranger and doesn't smile.
When the birds stop polluting the morning air with chatter.
When children don't want a legacy.
Things go awry when parents aren't parents.
When the fields don't have cows
and the church man doesn't have hope.
When the world lacks love
and is deficient in compassion.
When the crows bring sadness
and the mailman brings enveloped desperation.
Things go awry when the politician doesn't care.
When the religious commit the crimes
and the caregiver hurts the one in need.
Things go awry when we forget who we really are.
