The God Squad

A bright, beaming smile is thrown

to the lens, it’s owner alive with the sense

of recklessness and absurdity

that allowed him such a following.

Around him his kin are in chaos.

Eye’s burning with barely concealed

rage, Artemis tries and fails to clean

the tar off her delicate arrows, the urge

to introduce one to her brother’s head

a constant presence in her mind.

The once unjustly beautiful Aphrodite

shrieks as her appreciating gaze falls

upon her now sickly green face, the usually

passive goddess scrambling to destroy

the laughing camera’s holder behind her.

Hermes tries and fails to keep his winged

shoes afloat as his arms strain with holding a

wriggling  satyr above the shimmering pool,

both hoping to make the cut into the what would

undoubtedly be a viral video.

As the events of the day play out in the glowing

screen in front of him, the joyous sun god swells

with pride at the abundant amount of mischief

he was able to create in such a short expanse of time.

Oh how lucky Apollo was to experience the glorious

mayhem that was Youtube.
