A Glimpse of Hope

Beep. Beep. Beep. The heart rate monitor rings

Tick. Tick. Tick. The clock chimes with endless cruelty

Thump. Thump. Thump. The doctor's footsteps haunt the halls

Beep. Beep.... Silence. Another child taken by cancer.

Our world is vast

Seven billion who need a call

A career to last

Saving a life can cure them all

The Four Diamonds we hold near and dear

Wisdom, Courage, Strength, and Honesty.

We search and search for a cure

But who is there to hear?

Families suffer with debt and death

Children lose their hair and muscle

But, the Four Diamonds Fund is there

And hope will give them every breath

Beep. Beep. Beep. The heart monitor rings again

Tick. Tick. Tick. The clock sings it's endless song

Thump. Thump. Thump. My footprints echo in the hallway

Monitors, lights, and needles are all she knows

She is only five years old

Her parents hide their sorrow

As their child's skin turns cold

My footprints halt at the door

The air is heavy and  feelings are hollow

Saddened looks on the family's faces I can't ignore

The glimpse of hope in the girl's eyes is too much to swallow

It's too much to bare. I can't hold it in

I begin to say, "This will only take a sec."

Her parents look up, heart broken

Happily I say, "The Four Diamonds Fund would like you to have this check."

Laughter and crying fill the room

The girl's parents smile with delight

For now they knoww that her life could resume

And her future would be bright

The girl looks at me once again

For her life would be born anew

She smiles joyfully, feeling that she now can

In her eyes I could see that hope had come through

Beep. Beep.... The girl's monitor is silent

Tick. Tick. Tick. The clock continues to move forward

Thump. Thump. Thump. The little's girls feet dance as she happily walks out of the hospital.
