To the Girl I Used to Be

To the Girl I Used to Be

You thought that to fit in meant to let other kids bring you down.

You used to hide your tears behind your fears just to be accepted.

You thought your background made you a target.

You let them call you names and hurt you with their hands.

You grew silent.

You tried to play sports and join a team.

But even then, the kids were still so mean.

They laughed at the way your parents sounded when they spoke.

So, you wiped your eyes and hid behind your fists while the other parents watched

You blamed yourself for their insults

You told yourself it was because you were born.

Your childhood was shattered and torn.

You grew stronger.

You achieved greatness in school and grew to be beautiful

Those who laughed and taunted wallowed in the intelligence you flaunted.

You waited patiently and the friends you received loved and appreciated you

You realized that you’re are no longer the girl you used to be.

You are bolder

You are wiser

You are greatness

You are beautiful

And you are Worth it.
