Generation Techno-Zombie

Thu, 01/08/2015 - 02:34 -- Jaywing

Who are we, in this digital age,

but bits of codes and glowing numbers

Hiding behind words and pictures,

Waiting for an electronic ‘ding’

to provide us gratification.

We sit at our screens,

we tap and we stare until our eyes ache

and no amount of rubbing helps

and our eyelids are tied down,

sinking as if tied to concrete blocks.

Computers and gadgets and websites

all connect us now to each other:

we put everything out there for the world

and it sends things back in response,

an endless supply of attention.

Being social is suddenly viewed

as something you can do while alone,

though you’re “never truly alone”

when you’re connected to social media,

right??

Who are we in this digital age,

but mindless zombies infected with addiction.

Excuse me, while I ignore everyone in the room

and instead text those who aren’t near

and act disinterested.
