A free ride

1 Chronicles 21:24 New English Translation (NET Bible)

24 King David replied to Ornan, “No, I insist on buying it for top price.

I will not offer to the Lord what belongs to you or offer a burnt sacrifice that cost me nothing.

A free ride

Little birds chirping in the trees singing songs of innocence

Here I am a vulture just waiting until one falls

Living at the expense of others in a self-chosen pretense

Hungering for a free ride as long as no one calls

Shaking the tree of good to gather all the fruit

Swallowing it whole for the satisfaction of the flesh

I am so religious and in everything I so prove

Persistence with this project doing my very best

I carry quite a load from the fruit I gathered

I’ll share it with others who don’t have a clue

Where I got the plenty really does not matter

as long as all are satisfied until the price is due
