The Fourth Necessity

The three necessities
necessary for a human being are
food, clothing, and shelter.
What about Love?
Without Love there is no chef
who came from a poor household
where every night his mother
went to sleep hungry and cold
but somehow made it possible for that little chef
to eat all of the meat and veggies his tummy could hold.
For without Love
that little chef would not have made a promise.
“I’ll make you the best meal Ma!
I’m talkin’ red beans and rice, pork chops, and fried okra.”
For without Love, the little chef has no inspiration.
Without Love there is no tailor
who was raised in a foster home
with nothing to wear but rags, torn jeans,
and shoes with a hole in the sole.
He ran and played with the other kids;
they played street hockey, soccer, and even football
From when the sun rose, until it would fall.
A best friend invited the little tailor
For dinner at his place
But the parents kept him out,
felt his rags were a disgrace.
For without Love
That little tailor would not have made a promise.
“I’ll make the best clothes ever!
I’m talkin’ creased khakis and a scarf with a powder blue sweater!”
For without Love, the little tailor has no inspiration.
Without Love there is no carpenter
who lived in a trailer with Mom and Dad.
Well Daddy drank too much,
and that made Mommy mad.
The little carpenter sat in his room
on a single mattress he lied
while Dad went out drunk
and Mom sat and cried.
A storm took their trailer
Wind, lightning, and rain
It was none other than
The mighty hurricane.
For without Love
that little carpenter would not have made a promise.
“I’ll build the biggest house for this family!
I’m talkin’ 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, so we can all live happily!”
For without Love, the little carpenter has no inspiration.
Don’t try to tell me there are only three necessities to life
because I’ll call you a liar.
What does the heart desire?
What makes you want a husband or a wife?
What wakes you up every morning
and lets you sleep at night?
What’s purer than a dove?
That’s right; it’s Love.
