Forget your dreams, spread your legs

She said. "You gon' be something baby, don't ever forget that."

Not with no ass, and my chest this flat.

I'd be a fool to think he gon' notice my credentials.

Lots of thighs, brown eyes and full lips.

He licked his lips at my hips before he noticed my résumé.

"If you wanna work here, there's a price to pay."

As if I didn't know this was coming I roll my eyes at my future and dreams.

Might as well be like the rest,

and sell some dope.

"What's the price sir?"

Some sex.

Dirty texts.

Give away my soul.

Nah, imma leave this office whole, content,

hearing my mama's words from within.

"Just close your eyes, spread them thighs. I got you."

Catch chills through my body like I got the flu.

"Come on and lay down on this desk. I won't tell boo."

Wipe a tear from my cheek and kick off a shoe.

Forget those stupid dreams of a great life you had at the door.

This is what a woman is supposed to do.
