My Chains are bound,
My freedoms gone.
Prejudice boy, cruel man,
Hope withers within these walls.
A cold swift swing,
I see death approaching.
My life has the value of few coins
Because my skin mimics the dirt between my toes.

Wars are fought
Men die.
Hope is given
To be torn away.
My brothers fight
For the men who bound their chains.

My brothers die
My sisters weep
My mothers pray
My fathers sleep
My children hope.

And then the words that set me free,
“Forever free” with liberty.
My chains are broken,
My hands unbound,
I’m free to serve my country proud.
