Footsteps

Will the words “I love you” suffice?

Will it make you happy?

Will it make you sad?

In these stanzas,

Could passion truly to be expressed?

Because I love you

The words of love will not simply run out

It shall always ring out true

As there’s no limits to this love

There’s no due date, no expiration

This isn’t some groceries that will grow old

Rotten and dull,

Disgusting and putrid.

Our love is preserved, fresh, new

As new as when spring pops

From winter’s warm tender hold.

Budding leaves and new blossoms.

Unlike his eternal emptiness of the dead,

Our love is more of a brand-new living

Again, and again as if time has stopped.

However, that would be a lie,

Time doesn’t stop for no one

Time keeps going, painfully, cruelly

Not all is happy and sunshine,

That would be a lie, a lie I can’t tell.

There are fights, there are shouts, tears

These are all part of a relationship

Not all is bright, this is normal.

It’s okay to argue, to disagree

It’s okay to part not too far

It’s okay to apologize

To get back together

To make up

All healthy relationships are like that.

It’s not okay to threaten, to hit

It’s not okay cheat, not okay to ‘get back’

It’s not okay to play the blame game.

Then get together

Sown by loose threads.

There’s a difference.

Because I love you

Shouldn’t be a chain,

It should mean choice

Consent, acceptance, rejection,

Yes and no.

Our love doesn’t need to full of constant chatter,

Something new, something old,

Something to talk about.

Our love could be silent,

Comforted silence with no words at all.

Not awkward, not broken

Just love.

Little actions, remembering

Not remembering, dates all around,

Dates on the wall, dates on days out.

Little things reminding me of you,

That color, flower, gem.

I can’t forget the little things

I recognize that makes me think of you.

Every fragmented memory, pieces and pieces.

Even jokes, even puns

Can be part of the fun.

Healthy relationships can they be serious?

Can they be fun? Can’t they be both?

Happiness, bliss, ups and downs are all parts.

I love you isn’t meant to hold you down

Because I love you isn’t an excuse.

I don’t mean to confuse you,

I don’t mean to hurt you,

I don’t mean to push you away.

I needed you,

I wanted you to understand,

I wanted to be closer to you.

Because of love, I will say sorry,

Not ‘sorry’ of the empty

The sorry of sincerity and regret,

Because where else will I find someone like you?

Relationships, I thought, aren’t made of flings,

Of lost promises, of emptiness with no tomorrows.

Relationships are fill with hope no matter what.

What brings, what may, what will come.

Because I love you,

I will not follow, I will not fall behind

I will not let you falter or be abandon.

We aren’t alone in this world,

Two pairs of footsteps walking side by side.

Step by step, making patterns on the ground,

Whether sand or snow,

Hand in hand we’ll go.

Pushing forward with none left to the past,

Reaching hope, despite despair’s knocking.

We chose each other

Despite the world and it’s thoughts,

Our paces and our footsteps,

Our heartbeats and our breaths.

That’s because I love you.
