Fatherless

Years of your physical presence

Overshadowed by your absence
Stripped of my adolescence
Having to grow up a fragment
A fragment of my potential
Had I not lost you so prematurely
Having that presence is essential
To feel as a whole, securely
But now a new presence has appeared
A presence that I adore
This magnitude of love I feared
As a fragment, I was sure they’d abhor
Realization hit- this was my missing piece
I did not need to be afraid
This feeling of inadequacy to be released
Because for me, this piece was made
Your love and this one
Are two very different feelings
But my frailty is done
As this has been revealing
I now can see my vigor
I have found peace in my identity
And love was the trigger
Now the rest is serenity

This poem is about:
Me
My family
