There is loneliness in my soul tonight.
I reach out hesitantly for some help.
I can see someone out there that is bright.
Though I am being tortured by a whelp.

The sun does not rise with my mood today.
I am in hope that it will tomorrow.
I can picture someone out there to say
I promise there will be no more sorrow.

I wake up and there is a big weight off.
I hope this is such a good sign for me.
I can finally see someone clear far-off.
I know that they will come and set me free.

I have now found what I need, that is love.
I have always thought this was unheard of.

The message in this poem is a great one! Suicide's closest companions are often loneliness and hopelessness which you have expressed through your feelings. I wonder, however, if you have any more to say about the topic because I feel as though this poem was ended quite abruptly-- I believe you do.

An exercise that may help with brevity is to just write without much thought for what you are wiring. Anything that comes to your mind you should put into words. Be descriptive. Use imagery, symbolism, and any other literary technique. At the end of this exercise, your poem will read like a senseless ramble. Don't worry too much-- that was the point.

Poetry, along with every other talent, is often contemplated in hindsight. We think, "I have never written more than 20 lines", or "I was never able to rhyme quite easily", however, if we wish to cultivate our talents we must push our barriers past our preconceived dispositions!

Your potential is more than you may fathom at this point, but don't let that stop you from writing up a storm!

Give it a try!
